Second Grade Information

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is important for your child to be successful. When your child is absent, he/she will miss important instruction. Students are counted tardy if they are not in the classroom with all of their supplies by 8:00 AM. Roll is checked at 9:15 AM. Your child will be counted absent if he/she is not here by that time unless accompanied by a doctor’s note. If your child is absent, please email or send a note the next day to the homeroom teacher. The make-up policy is 1 day absent = 1 day to make up work.

ARRIVAL/ DISMISSAL

Students may arrive as early as 7:15 AM. Between 7:15 and 7:30 AM, all students will report to the cafeteria. Breakfast will be available until 7:50. Between 7:30 and 7:50 AM, your child will sit in the 2nd grade hallway. Each child is expected to have a book to read daily. 

Walk alone students and bike riders will be dismissed at 2:56 PM. All other students will be dismissed at 3:00 PM. It is always a good idea to be sure you have a rainy-day plan for dismissal. Be sure to work out these details well ahead of time with your child. If you need to make a change as to how your child is dismissed, please contact the front office at 469-302-6500 prior to 2:00 PM.

HOMEWORK

Homework is not a requirement, but students are encouraged to read 20 minutes a day and to practice math facts for  5-10 minutes every night to help with automaticity.

COMMUNICATION

Teachers will send a weekly email with the information about the happenings in second grade by Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM. Handouts from the school will be sent out at the beginning of the week in the Monday Folder.  There is a second grade website that will be updated weekly with curriculum and other important reminders. Please check this website every week: https://rje2nd.wixsite.com/2ndgrade. Each teacher is available through email or phone. However, email is the quickest way to contact your teacher for any reason.

Specials: 9:20-10:05

Recess: 11:45 - 12:15                  

Lunch: 12:15-12:45

SNACK

Snack will be from 10:10-10:20. Students should bring a HEALTHY snack that fits in one hand so they can continue working while they eat.
